NATIONAL GARFIELD THE CAT DAY
Celebrated each year on June 19, it is National Garfield the Cat Day. A fictional character, Garfield is a title protagonist from the comic strip Garfield which was created by Jim Davis. Today is set aside to celebrate him and the entertainment that he brings us.
June 19, 1978, was the first publication of Garfield which chronicles the life of the lead character, the cat Garfield (named after Jim Davis ’s grandfather); Garfield’s owner, Jon Arbuckle: and Jon’s dog, Odie.
- 2013 – Garfield is syndicated in roughly 2,580 newspapers and journals and holds the Guinness World Record for being the world’s most widely syndicated comic strip.
- Garfield was one of the cartoon characters to appear in Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue.

National Garfield The Cat Day was first celebrated in 1998 on the 20th anniversary of the comic strip and Garfield’s birthday. Boca Raton City Council Member, Wanda Thayer, proclaimed June 19 as Garfield the Cat Day during surprise birthday party at the International Museum of Cartoon Art in Boca Raton.

1. If you have ever followed the Garfield comic strip, you know Garfield loves lasagne. What is your favorite Italian food? Do you over-indulge when it comes to pasta? 
Lasagna is my favorite, and I don't over indulge
2. Tell us about your very first pet. If you have never had a pet, can you tell us about an animal that touched your life in some way? That would be our cats Sally and Susie we had when I was growning up.... can't remember much about them. The first pets I had one I was on my own, would be our cats Sami and Prissy - Sami was my hubs cat through and through, she was one large cat. Pris was my calico kitty, and such a lover...miss these two.
3. Garfield sleeps his day away, only waking to eat or sweet talk his girlfriend Arleen. How many hours sleep do you normally get each night? How much sleep do you really need?
I try and be in bed by 10, as I get up at 6 to get the hubs up and out the door for work... I range from between 5-6 hrs, as I am a very light sleeper, every little sound/movement seems to wake me up, and its hard to get back to sleep.... I really need to get 8ish, but i just can't seem to stay asleep long enough
4. Garfield lets the mice in the house have their way. When was the last time you had to chase out a little varment?
As in a mouse? Never...and I hope to never...that would freak me the heck out!
5. Garfield also loves his teddy bear Pooky. Did you have a favorite stuffed animal when you were young (or now!)? If you didn't or don't, what about someone you know?
I had a lamb that was my favorite growing up.... I had it for a very long time after moving out but somewhere along the line it got lost.
6. Please tell us something about your week, so far! The week started out with Father's Day, the boys came over for dinner and the oldest grilled for us. I have one pic of them, they look oh so thrilled, can't ya tell?
Tuesday I had to go into work for a 2 hr training, and found this at my spot from one of my coworkers... she is the one that said I had to name my truck... which is something I have never done (name my vehicles)...so jokingly I said Felix, and now it has stuck...LOL
Laughing at the family pic. Why is it that men always look so happy in family photos if they know it is coming?

ReplyDeleteMen just don't like having their pic made. I took one last night of my guy holding his father's day gift and had to try 3 times to get one that was "okay." You have very nice looking sons.

ReplyDeleteHave you tried melatonin to help you sleep? I get the 3 mg tablets by Natrol that dissolve under your tongue. We don't need them every night, but they really work well for us. We buy them in Walmart.
